MISC SCHOOL PROJECTS
WHEN : 2017 - 2020
WHO : NORWICH SCHOOL
WHY : ADVERTISE EVENTS, COMMEMORATE EXHIBITION, GCSE MINI PROJECTS
WHAT : POSTERS, PUBLICATION, SCREEN PRINTS
Throughout my time at school, I undertook a lot of different projects. One being All Fades to Silence. After helping to put together an exhibition at school celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the Armistice, I was asked to create a book to immortalise the exhibition. The exhibition was a collection of student written poetry and photography, as well as a few installation pieces, including a wall of candle-lit, perspex crosses, each engraved with the name of an old school member who had died during the wars.
Our school held a lot of different events, some fundraisers, some talent shows, dance and music festivals. I designed a lot of the poster designs to advertise these events throughout my time in sixth form. They were quick turn around, bright and eye-catching and I aimed to organise information in a way for all ages (11-18).
During my A Level years, before we started our coursework, we did a few mini-projects. One being to produce posters to advertise the school musical, Chicago.
I used lyrics from iconic songs from the show and played around with simple typographic designs. Alongside these, I also got to design an insert for the programme which was a game for the audience to play during the interval or before the show started. I was inspired by teen magazines and the 'Which ___ are you?' quizzes. I put a slightly morbid twist on it and asked members to work out 'Which victim are you?' Using characters sung about in the Cell Block Tango, an infamous group number in the show.
Another mini-project we did allowed us to get a hand in screen printing. We were each given a random headline and had to design an A3 print using only 3 colours. My headline read: "Elvis ALIVE? King of Rock's 'HIDDEN' autopsy notes spark conspiracy FRENZY'. I wanted these designs to be vector based and I used as much information about Elvis, including his favourite colours and motifs from his life and unfortunate death.
